Namecheap hosting systems are primarily known as a domain registrar with reasonable prices . For example, you can register a .com domain for $ 10.69 per year. Some TLDs are even currently going for $ 0.88. If you want a domain name at a low cost , the Namecheap system certainly lives up to its name.
But did you know that Namecheap systems provide such low cost solutions? From hosting to dedicated servers, they have all the industry standard offerings. So how are the services? I signed up for a general plan and experienced it extensively. Here’s what I think so far.
Author’s note: I’ll be back in this comment in three or four months with all the updates.
I bought a “ value ” package that costs $ 9.98 for the first year, and then $ 38.88 a year after that. It comes with unlimited bandwidth, 20 GB on a SSD drive, and can accommodate up to 3sites. Right now, I really appreciate that the Namecheap system doesn’t claim “unlimited” disk space, like a number of other hosting companies. “Unlimited” disk space, I’m sorry to say it, is a marketing ploy that leads to the reselling of resources on shared servers (which slows down) and is used to confuse and anger customers. What are those that other companies only tell you in the TOS / AUP is that each user has certain restrictions (such as the number of inodes), which effectively prevent the use of the disk from ballooning too much. If you exceed this limit , you may be shocked to find your account suspended or terminated on a disk that you believed was unlimited. Namecheap Systemsthere are such limits , but they are perfectly acceptable and, given that they advertise disk space on their plans, do not come as a surprise to customers who may exceed some other disk usage limits.
Signing up for armament was a breeze. After you add your hosting package to the Namecheap cart system, you are taken to a new page where you can add a new domain to your cart, use a domain already registered with Namecheap, or use one registered elsewhere. I decided to buy a new domain because, hey, why not? For $ 10.69 you get a domain with a free year of whois datawhich is then $ 2.88 annually. Add to that $ 9.98 and our total comes out $ 20.67 per domain and year of hosting. (Compare this to Hostgator, for example, which currently offers newly registered domains at $ 12.95 for the first year – $ 15 for each year thereafter – and hideouts also for $ 12.95 per year. Total: $ 25.90, and that’s not even including the hosting plan.)

After registering, the Namecheap system helpfully messages the Namecheap system control panel with the web server hostname credentials and cPanel control or FTP credentials, and the DNS servers you must use. I have used many different hosting and domain registrars over the years and I must say that the Namecheap systems control panel where you manage your domain (s), rate plan (s) and payment options is without a doubt the easiest and most straightforward interface. that I ran into. It even comes with a two-factor authentication option, a security feature many vendors still lack.
Compared to GoDaddy’s labyrinthine, Dotster hasn’t been updated for almost 15 years, and Hostgator only works when its developers are paying attention. But is the Namecheap system? It is practically a thing of beauty. Everything is obvious and you can get what you need to do with a minimum of clicks. Three clicks and my domain pointed to the suggested names. This domain was resolved within 5 minutes of the original purchase. Seriously.
Now to cPanel . There is a lot to love about installing the Namecheap game pad system. First, it’s not branded. I don’t need to be reminded that I use their service, seeing Namecheap graphics are everywhere, and I’m glad they agree. Secondly, not full of ads trying to get me started on this or get me to buy it. And thirdly, it is completely free of viruses. Namecheap systems have just installed the most useful addons : Softaculous, Cloudflare, Google Apps, CodeGuard, an SSL auto-installer, and a really great spam filter. I will discuss some of these in more detail in the next section.
Features of the
You might assume that a service as inexpensive as the Namecheap system would only provide customers with the most bare bones features, enough to give you an invoice, but otherwise leave you to your own. However, this is not the case. It offers a range of free and low service fees to suit most needs.
- The Namecheap Systems is an uptime monitoring app that records your site’s uptime and availability for 90 days at a time. If your server crashes, or your domain on DNS gets pointed elsewhere for a while, this handy tool will record when and for how long it’s all.
- Softaculous , a script library that automates the installation of most internet packages you might want: WordPress, Joomla and phpbb, whatever you have. It has already been added to your cPanel. It’s like QuickInstall Mojo on the market, except I’m not confused, and like Netenberg, except for fantastically offering many other packages to install.
- Cloudflare , a CDN service that improves website performance and security by routing traffic to your website through its network and serves up cached versions for your visitors, thereby improving page speed, reducing your server load, and protecting against malicious traffic. Also found in your cPanel.
- CodeGuard , a very user-friendly backup service site.
- Google applications for work that are currently known enough not to need further description.
- The Weebly app is an easy-to-use visual website builder.
- Nimbusec , site, security monitoring tool. (This one is new to me, but it is not valid for Reader.)
- SEO and search engines tools like MargetGoo and SiteBooster .

When choosing any hosting provider , the support can be as important to you as the service itself. I tend to look for a good knowledge base simply because I enjoy doing a lot of things myself. Others find it more important to be able to contact a competent support representative in a timely manner. I would say that my experiences with both have been very good.
Namecheap Systems’ knowledge base covers just about everything you need to know as a customer. The article is depth or concise when it should be, and is filled with helpful screenshots to guide the reader together as to what the task he or she is trying to accomplish. While I can’t say the same is true for all hosting providers, it would be a good idea for customers to consult the Namecheap system knowledge base before contacting a direct support technician simply because everything is written for you. I will note, however, that some of the articles seem to have been written by someone for whom English is not their first language – such as this one , with its strange diction and the word capitalization.
Of course, sometimes it is really necessary to talk to a living person. Please note that while Namecheap offers live chat support, it does not offer phone support of any kind. If you are the one who prefers to over the phone, or (more importantly) if you are looking to host critical business data and need to speak to someone on the phone when something goes wrong, Namecheap systems probably are not. For you.
My experience with Namecheap on chat was mixed . I spoke to the rates chat specialists five times to gauge their level of support. The first one was to ask them to enable SSH (a protocol that allows you to connect to your server via the command line) at my expense. The second one was to help me solve the well known “error establishing database connection message” for WordPress after I intentionally messed up my wp-config.php file. The third one was to help me open uptime monitoring add-on that I subscribed to, and I cannot find the relevant articles in the knowledge base. In each of these cases, I was met within about a minute and my issue was resolved with the help of a friendly specialist support.under the age of 10 minutes . This is very impressive.
Moreover, I contacted them once and decided to close the right chat after I was met. My chat question is “how do I add a domain to my account in cPanel?” – very often experts hear a question. A few minutes after I finished the chat ahead of schedule, I received an email from a specialist that our chat was disabled, apologizing for the inconvenience, and gave me a link to the knowledge base on how to add a domain to my account. It’s hard to beat this one.
Unfortunately, while researching reliability and performance on a shared server I was at (where you can read about it in the next section), I’m trying to figure out how to see how long Apache has been running. Apache is a service (or program) on servers that actually offer sites in browsers when you enter a URL in the address bar. I knew you could see the Apache server uptime in WHM, which is essentially the server admin interface if running in cPanel, so I was just trying to get a live chat technician to tell me what it was. As you can read in this log chatwhich I edited a little in privacy, it’s not very good. The technician either does not know how to find the information despite my instructions, or simply does not have access. I have also been given conflicting information. I eventually got an answer (although I already discovered how to find it myself very early in the chat), but it took a full hour.
The main takeaway here: live chat technicians can probably help you with simple tasks , but nothing even a little complicated can end up with a bad experience for you.
Reliability and performance
Namecheap systems provide clients on shared servers with a 100% uptime guarantee, although it is important to understand that this does not mean anything. According to their (poorly written) article in the Microsoft Knowledge Basementioned above, “any… circumstance beyond our control and which cannot be foreseen”, or “any natural disaster or force majeure [sic] that causes the service to fail”, Namecheap exempts you from the need to compensate you. These two proposals are so broad and vague that they are essentially a get-out-of-jail-free card for the Namecheap system in the event of, say, a server crash, or its own network crashes. So the uptime guarantee seems to me to be misleading and given the wording that the second quote is very unprofessional.
Namecheap’s shared servers are located in the AtlantaNAP / GNAX and PhoenixNAP data centers, both renowned for their reliability and high fiber connectivity. A typical shared server would be Dell like R630 or M620 blade , powered by 12+ Intel Xeon E5 2600 series processors, 128GB of RAM , and local RAID10 storage with SSD or Dell EqualLogic san with SSD. All servers are currently running the CloudLinux 6.x Linux distribution.
Solution weekly backupprovide the Namecheap system, but if you need to use it, you will pay $ 15 to restore. Weekly backups are not actually part of the shared hosting plans, and in fact, are not guaranteed. If you have critical data that needs a reliable backup service, I would not recommend relying on Namecheap systems. As with many other vendors, Namecheap’s weekly system backups are taken server-wide as a protection against service disaster, and any old backups from a week before are overwritten. This means that if your site gets hacked or deleted two weeks ago, and you just noticed it today, Namecheap systems won’t be able to restore the backup when you want.
While testing the Namecheap system of services, I found them very fast and reliable . My cPanel was never slow, SSH and FTP were fast and my test site loads fast. In WordPress, the default install will load in about a second using various tests I’ve run, including GTMetrix , Pingdom , and WebPageTest . What many clients often don’t realize is that web page load times often have very little to do with server hardware or connection speed. That is, many slow-loading sites just need to be optimized .
My server uptime, at the time of my writing, is 113 days , or just over three and a half months. It’s okay, but you really want something better. I was looking at the Namecheap system status page to see if I could find some planned maintenance on my server (server163), but came up with nothing. So why is he offline 113 days ago?
Although a big red flag, there was an Apache server uptime. At the time of this writing, it has been restarted 2 days and 6 hours ago . As mentioned above, Apache is a service that serves sites in your browser. If Apache goes down, your websites are offline, although email, SSH and other services will continue to work. Unfortunately, I was unable to get any information as to why Apache was restarted in the first place. The live chat technician tried to convince me that “Apache reloads very quickly and it will not affect the performance of your site in any way,” but the simple fact is that it affects the performance of the site, even if the reload is quick.
Namecheap offers some of the most affordable hosting on the market. The registration process is very user-friendly and the client interface is quite possibly the best I’ve seen. Unfortunately, their customer service and reliability is poor, especially if you are looking to organize a business or other high traffic site. But if you just want to host something small and personal, and you feel like you don’t have any complicated technical needs, Namecheap may be the best choice for you.
